Increasing the chances of successful fundraising: Johnson & Johnson Innovation and the life science factory Goettingen train start-up teams in developing an effective non-confidential pitch deck
At the ‘Sell Your Science’ event that took place on March 13 at the recently launched life science factory, experts of the craft will share practical tips with start-ups on becoming more effective in communicating a story to Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists, increasing their chances of successful fundraising. Additionally, participants can apply for a one-on-one session to practice their pitch in front of the panelists and receive valuable feedback.
For scientists, it can be tricky to communicate the full potential of their discoveries without spilling the secret sauce. The life science factory, in cooperation with Johnson & Johnson Innovation, took up this challenge on March 13, 2019 and show their participants valuable tricks in terms of the creation of a non-confidential pitch deck and an executive summary.
The agenda included an introduction to developing an effective non-confidential pitch deck by Günter Huhle, Head of JLABS EMEA, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, followed by a panel discussion. While Günter Huhle moderated the discussion, the expert panel was composed of: Maciek Drozdz, Principal of Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation (JJDC); Laura Figulla, Partner and Head of Digital Health & Life Science at EY; Marco Janezic, CEO of BlueRibbon Partners and Managing Director of the life science factory; Philipp Rittershaus, Senior Investment Manager of High-Tech Gründerfonds; and Grit Zahn, Head of Research at Eternygen GmbH.
Subsequently, pre-selected teams of researchers and founders from the life science sector had the opportunity to improve their pitching skills by presenting their ideas or business models in a personal discussion with the experts.
The one-on-one sessions offered a unique opportunity to practice pitching skill with a panel of experts with multiple backgrounds and to benefit from their international experience. Attending the event, teams could connect with representatives of Johnson & Johnson Innovation and the life science factory and trigger the interest of key stakeholders in the life science industry by presenting their technology or solution.
